  Downtime
I'm just having a bit of a concerned moment that we might end up traveling continually with no down time and not actually get to see what there is where you actually are if you follow my train. The train is a go - Charles saw the link, Pierre doesn't think it is far enough into Colorado. Wondered about the feasibility of doing a loop with M&J the having a couple of days downtime before the big jaunt westwards? Get washing done etc. and some time for the kids just to play and show things.

You and Pierre both
Last night Pierre showed me some hugely ambitious looking route that went north as far as denver (apparently he now wants to see the rockies) across Utah and down to Vegas. I told him he needed to post it up here but NCSI was on so he couldn't leave the lounge. Charles would like to go sledding but I figure the backyard is good for that.

  I'm havinng a northern musing
I've just been wondering about a more northern route. We head to Durango 5hrs (Steam train) (you might not want to show Charles that link) then up into Utah, Arches perhaps back through Page and along one or other side of the Grand Canyon Nevada etc (I haven't looked that far yet)

Our route there
P has planned a route to SF which involves going south from LA to Blythe then up to Flagstaff and the I40, expecting it will take 2 days. Looks like we could possibly get further and still find a bed on the first night going this way.

So I thought this might be good way for us to get our thoughts together on a trip plan.

P & R has mentioned Carlsbad Caverns. They are ~6hours drive from here. So I've starte thinking about a plan that takes us straight (more o less) to there then across Arizona, Nevada maybe and into California.

Goggle sugests the route between Carlsbad and Tuscon is via El Paso Tx. Looks interesting Do we want to go to Mexico? From Here? From Arizona?

Chiricahua National Monument and Saguaro National Park both look interesting. Saguaro has a junior ranger program but Chiricahua doesn't.
If we're headed north, we probably need to hit Grand Canyon. Tonto NM is on the way they have a Junior Web ranger program which you could do NOW - Thou Grandma's only allowed to help if she helps BOTH boys!
from there, there is Wupatki NM - Pueblo ruins, Sunset crater and Walnut canyon all near Flagstaff and about 3 -4 hours drive from Tonto. Then its a short leap to Grand Canyon.

enough for today.
